2007 Summer MAYB Squad

The 2007 Summer roster evolved during the season, beginning the summer season as two squads, but finishing the season very strong as one. The Swish experimented with two squads at the beginning of the summer to allow more players to be involved. Having twenty players in the program was very rewarding, but at the same time, very tiring on tournament weekends. The Swish were not as competitive while split, so after the Summer Kickoff, the Swish returned to one squad, rotating some players on and off the roster.

This team really evolved over the summer, with no individual standing out. The Swish learned how to compete and win as a team. There was great individual performances all season from several different players.

The Swish finishing 2-2 at Nationals is a great step in the right direction, as they eye a much better finish for 2008. A 16-1 record for the month of July, plus a strong showing in the Summer Hoopin' League, the Swish became a force to be reckoned with.

Buhler II

Finished the tournament in 3rd place with a 3-1 record. The Swish should have dominated the field, but played very sloppy basketball, losing to the Wichita Heat in the semi-finals.

Wichita IV

The Swish split into two squads for this tournament, with the Blue squad finishing 3rd in the tournament. The White squad contained many new players and played well during the weekend, but unfortunately finished 0-3.

Wichita I

Once again, the Swish split into two different squads, with neither squad competing well. Many Swish regulars were missing during this tournament. The Blue squad competed in the Black division and finished 5th. The White squad competed in the Blue division and finished 4th. A very difficult time for the Swish as we say goodbye to long time Swish regular Montez Miller, as he decided to begin playing with the Diaper Dans.

Summer Kickoff

Both squads competed well in the tournament, without great results. The Blue squad finishes the tournament 1-5 playing tough against good competition. The White squad finishes 0-5, but showed good signs of improvement, and is definitely the funner team to watch.

Derby

With the Swish recombined into one squad, they are ready for a late season push. This tournament was much more competitive than expected as the Swish win two double overtime games, and lose the championship game in overtime by 2 points. I believe the Swish regained their confidence in this tournament allowing for a strong finish.

Maize

The Swish totally dominate this tournament, with their closest game being a 14 point win versus the Wichita Shox. The Swish continue a rivalry with the Wichita Spurs, beating them in pool play, and then again in the championship game.

Wichita II

The Swish complete the summer regular season with another tournament championship. The Swish avenge their loss in the Derby tournament championship game, byt beating Team Haysville in pool play, and again play their friends, the Wichita Spurs, for the championship of the Eagle Summer Slam.

Summer Nationals

The Swish have a good showing at the MAYB Summer Nationals, going 2-2, but competing with some of the best teams in the region. The Swish begin the tournament by dominating the Colorado Ravens, losing a close game agains Team Tulsa and beating the Kansas City Premiere easily. In bracket play, the Swish jumped out to an early lead over the Kansas City Spartans, but played tight down the stretch and lost by one point.
